Aloha! My name is Courtney Pierce and this sailing journey down the Pacific Coast of Mexico is my first cruising experience. I have spent many weekends on Natural Mystic at the Channel Islands but this is my first time, livin lighter, on a boat. I still do not consider myself a “cruiser.” At first I thought of it as, I fell in love with someone who lives on a boat and now I am thrown into this lifestyle. However, the more I learn, and the more experiences I gain, the more I love it! I now have the dream to sail around the world, which is something I never even thought about until I met Kyber. I dream to set sail in search of the pristine and showcase an eco-lifestyle, promote wellness, happiness, and living in tune with nature.
I recently graduated from UCSB with a degree in Environmental Studies and a Technology Entrepreneurship Certificate. Now I am working full time on my business the Heartwood Path – an online personal growth course that helps people find happiness through connecting with nature and provides a space for like-minded individuals to connect in their efforts to make the world a better place. For many different reasons, I decided to do the Heartwood Path step-by-step while on this sailing journey. Many of my posts on this blog will be inspired from doing the Heartwood Path activities.
I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, in the suburbs of a large Metropolitan area. I was very active in playing soccer and field hockey and loved my close group of friends. As a little girl, on the weekends, I would get away from the city and go on float trips where we would camp and canoe in the pristine forests of Missouri, where my Father spent many years preserving the environment. Growing up in the Midwest, you might imagine that I would be uninterested in the ocean. However that was the exact opposite effect for me. Remember when you were 7 years old, and could spend all day mesmerized by the star fish and everything you did in the ocean was new and exciting. Well that’s me. I’m only seven years old in ocean years. I am overly enthusiastic about learning about this marvelous sanctuary that I was deprived of for so long. The past seven years living in Santa Barbara, I have learned to love free-diving, surfing, dolphins, night swimming in bio-luminescence, and now, sailing.

I also love yoga, music, playing guitar and ukulele, dancing, growing my own food, sewing bikinis, snowboarding, my kitten named Disco, mangos, music festivals, and exploring nature. With my efforts in the Heartwood Path, I hope to help others find happiness and connect with nature in a way that is good for themselves and the planet. I’m a dreamer and a believer and I hope to make the world a better place. “Because the ones who think they are crazy enough to change the world are the ones that do.” -Steve Jobs
